Dear Mail.sb Users,

We have to tell you that mail.mw is being discontinued. The registration expired on 14 August 2026 and we have not been able to complete a renewal. As of today, every @mail.mw address should be treated as temporary.

We have stopped issuing new @mail.mw addresses.

Why — the short version

Shortly before the renewal fell due, the cost of this domain was raised at the registry level, with no advance notice of any kind — no warning, no notification, no chance to plan around it. We want to renew it. That has not changed, and it is still true today. What we have not been able to accept is an additional surcharge attached to the renewal, at a level we do not agree with. We have said so, and asked to settle it. We have had no substantive reply since.

We are keeping this deliberately short. The situation is still open, and we would rather put our energy into recovering the domain than into arguing about it in public. If anything changes, we will say so here.

It still works today. That is not a reprieve.

The public WHOIS record for mail.mw already reads status: Domain expired. DNS is still being published, so mail to and from @mail.mw is being delivered normally as we write this.

That can stop on any day, without warning, and the timing is not ours to control. When an expired domain is pulled from the zone it goes all at once: the MX records vanish, incoming mail is rejected or silently dropped at the sender's end, outgoing mail fails authentication, and password-reset links sent to the address simply never arrive. There is no grace period on that transition, and no way for us to forward mail after it.

Please treat 14 September 2026 as the last day you can rely on a @mail.mw address. That is our recommendation, not a guarantee from anyone — it may hold longer, it may end sooner. Plan for the earlier date.

What you need to do — in this order

1. Change the address on every service that is bound to it. Do this first, and do it today.

   Anywhere you have used a @mail.mw address to sign in, to receive password resets, to receive login or two-factor codes, or as a billing, recovery or contact address — go and change it now. That includes banks and payment services, exchanges and wallets, app store and platform accounts, domain registrars and hosting panels, social and messaging accounts, and work or school sign-in.

   If the address stops working before you have changed it, you may be permanently locked out of that account — and nobody, including us, will be able to recover it for you. This is the single most important sentence in this notice.

2. Tell the people who write to you. Give correspondents, colleagues and customers your new address before delivery stops. Once it does, many of them will not even get a bounce message telling them you never received it.

3. Save what you want to keep. Download or forward any messages, attachments and contacts you still need out of the mailbox while it is easy to do so.

4. Pick up a replacement address. Our other domains are unaffected and have years left on them — @mail.sb, @mail.ss, @mail.tl and @mail.af among them. You can register one from the sign-up page, where the full list of available domains is shown. The free plan is open.

What happens to your mailbox

• Your stored mail is not being deleted. Nothing is being purged alongside this notice.
• You will still be able to sign in and read it. Webmail and your account live on our own mail.sb hostnames, not on mail.mw. Losing the domain takes away delivery — it does not take away the contents of your mailbox or your ability to log in and get them out.
• What stops is delivery, in both directions. The mailbox becomes a read-only archive of what already arrived.
• If we ever do need to remove anything on our side, you will get a separate notice well in advance. This announcement is not that notice.

If you are on a paid plan

A small number of @mail.mw mailboxes are on paid plans. If yours is one of them, please write to [email protected] and we will sort out a replacement address on another domain for the remainder of your term. You are not going to lose what you paid for because of this.

Nobody should have to move an email address at short notice because of something decided several parties away from them, and we know exactly how much work this creates for you. We are sorry. We will keep pushing on our side, and we will post an update here either way.
